At the box-office, it has bleak chances of survival." He praised the music and the performance of Sonu Nigam, but criticized the direction, screenplay, editing and the climax. He also noted that the film was outdated and had nothing new to offer.
Rediff.com also gave the film 2 out of 5 stars and called it "a typical Bollywood potboiler". The reviewer wrote, "The film has nothing new to offer except Sonu Nigam's acting debut. He does a decent job but needs to work on his expressions. Juhi Babbar is average. Sharad Kapoor hams throughout. Raj Babbar is wasted in a cameo. Om Puri is good as usual."
The Times of India gave the film 3 out of 5 stars and wrote, "The film is a melodramatic saga of love and sacrifice. The film has some good moments but suffers from a weak script and a predictable plot. Sonu Nigam makes an impressive debut as an actor and proves his versatility. Juhi Babbar is cute and expressive. Sharad Kapoor is convincing as the villain. Raj Babbar and Om Puri lend support."
